The owners of this project wished to radically transform their property by replacing substandard extensions with individually designed accommodation of higher quality, more sympathetic to the original building and its setting, and to create a well-insulated property that benefited from renewable energy.
After first obtaining planning permission on behalf of the owners, the first phase of the contract was to build the single story annex to the side of the existing barn, this included the introduction of large oak beams to support the roof finally completed with a sedum roof over the top giving all year round interest.
Following extensive excavations, a two story Cotswold Stone Extension with oak timber frame construction to the first floor was constructed. In addition, a single story oak framed dining and living room with an Inglenook fireplace was constructed to the rear of the existing barn. This building also enjoys the benefits of under-floor heating and hot water connected to the solar panels.
The high levels of insulation in the new Annex and Barn extension, combined with the input from solar panels which run the under-floor heating and hot water, has resulted in extremely low running costs.
We also carried out extensive landscaping, a redesigned driveway with electric gates and the construction of a 3- bay Oak Frame Garage.
